JOANNA'S STORY.

“I truly live my life today to the fullest, travelling, driving, I study my Masters Degree, I enjoy everything, family, friends, food, yes everything.”

It was one and a half years ago I shared my story for the first time, and I can’t stress enough how much has changed since then, and how much has changed since my onset in 2017!!!

For those of you who haven’t heard my story I overnight began suffering really badly when I started Uni. It was 24/7 intrusive thoughts about anything that scared me about morals. I suffered extreme insomnia with nothing working to get me to sleep apart from one medication and unfortunately went over a year before I came in contact with anyone specializing in OCD and even longer before finding Rob.

I was definitely on the path to recovery when I shared my story last time, but had a long way to go. It has been a rollercoaster I must say, and I thought it was a quick fix, which was my biggest problem. I was always aiming for OCD to be 100% gone, the goal was never thinking about it again, I wanted it to go back to how it was before and I was disappointed every time I had a thought I disapproved of.

I was always searching for more, following hundreds of OCD accounts, going to more and more therapy even though I had a great knowledge already. Eventually my biggest issue was my OCD about OCD, nothing had scared me as much as OCD. So my biggest exposure ever was stopping everything and trying not to fix, it has been amazing.

Rob pushed me to realise that I know my tools, I know more than most people about OCD, and truly made me confident in recovery. Today I don’t have any coaching more than a group session once in a while to expose myself to OCD. Rob always keeps an eye on me and makes sure I am doing ok and I know that if I relapse (which I might do, I am fine with that) Rob will with a few sessions get me through it.

I truly live my life today to the fullest, travelling, driving, I study my Masters Degree, I enjoy everything, family, friends, food, yes everything. I appreciate life and the freedom so much! What Rob has done that no one else did and I went to the top OCD Centres, is that he changed my perspective of OCD fears and life in general. He has made me a more rational person that doesn’t view things as black or white.

Thank you Rob for giving me the confidence to deal with my OCD on my own, for being there for me when I needed and for making me feel stronger than before my OCD. And yes I still have OCD thoughts here and there, but all humans have, and I am also human!!
